Banteay Meanchey Officials Burn Over 160 Illegally Imported Pigs from Thailand

Banteay Meanchey: Over 160 pigs imported from Thailand have been incinerated in Banteay Meanchey province. The move was initiated by the officials from the Crime Intervention Force of Banteay Meanchey’s Agriculture Department's Veterinary Office. The pigs were seized from a truck carrying illegally imported pigs along the border.

Authorities have received an information on Thursday afternoon that a dark green van with no license plate was loaded with imported pigs from Thailand. It was then stopped at the National Road 56 in Banteay Meanchey’s Khleng Pon village, Svay Chek district. Police has questioned the vehicle’s driver, Yun Samet. However, the driver has denied any knowledge about the transported pigs. He has confessed to the authorities that the pigs were transferred to his vehicle from a truck at the Thai border, with the only instruction to distribute it nearby provinces.

When police opened the back of the van, the pigs were already foul-smelling. Joint forces along the border seized the pigs for a veterinary inspection, until they decided to burn them in a farm at Serey Saophoan city to prevent the spread of diseases.
